true to form, I have not started my nano nor do I have any idea what I want to write about. I have been busy! this makes me think of last november, when brooke and I spent alll our time in that dreamy little coffeeshop down the street from our house, with the crazy-strong siphon coffee and really bad thursday night jazz, and she studied like a good girl for her lsat and I fucked around and got nothing done. good times.
ugh, tequila. you are monstrous. also post-drinking cramps, why am I making a poorly-timed habit of you?
I have been researching city skylines all morning, for the set design for the xmas play which opens dec. 1 ohno!, and since we switched plays last week everything is a mess and it's basically a one-day design and may look very stupid but hey maybe not who knows, and I've been calling around to lumber stores for fake brick and then also trying to remember how to paint fake brick just in case because it's so much cheaper (and did I mention we owe 13000 in back taxes all of a sudden?, which is awesome, so I have to try and put this show together for no money) and also trying to sketch things and also kind of uneasily hoping that girl comes in to visit and kind of hoping she doesn't although I sure did dress pretty just in case and I want her to call me and ohmygod this is so stupid. I should be trying to find out what the ground in alleys and/or trainyards looked like in ny (or is it set in chicago? I don't even have a copy of the play, this is madness) in the 30s so I can figure out how we're going to paint the stage, and also take measurements and figure out what kind of lumber we need to order or if we have enough downstairs and find a 50 gallon oil drum, and old pallets and crates and blankets and and and. yesterday was lighting 101 for the designer; I busted out my high school notebooks because they are so good and concise, and talked art over lunch. such fun. I like being a mentor, and the guy has a really good grasp of what's going on. tomorrow he's coming in for a practical lighting lab: hang! focus! board operation! fun with gel! I'm going to stack up cubes for him to light, in the time-honored tradition of lighting design class. fun. maybe I'll give him assignments! not really, but it's fun to think about.
got the new battery for the small computer hurrah! and have a train ticket for friday night to los angeles, so I can pick up my furniture in a very complicated manner. in the meantime, I want to go home right this minute and curl up in my bed. man, I hope my aspirin kicks in soon.
