ahh, I have similar problems, though slightly different. So, I work at a game store, right? Well, its not exactly female central in there, and I work with all guys, in fact I'm the only girl working at any of the stores in the district. Crazy. So everyone I work with is really nice and all around good guys. But sometimes they cross the line into "too nice" region. A lot of people I tried to explain this too were like, what's wrong with nice? Thats pretty picky. Well, They buy me candy and drinks all the time, which is sweet, but they never let me pay them back for them or anything. Same applies if we all go to eat out after work. They won't let me climb on ladders to reach stuff or use box cutters to open boxes cause they are afraid of me hurtin myself. I'm fucking 20 years old. I'm not going to stab a box cutter into my hand, really. They always set my sales goals much lower than everyone elses too, even though i consistently sell the most out of everyone. When I approached them about it, they said that they just wanted me to feel comftroble and not pressured working in an all male environment. I don't think they understand that I don't really have many female friends and I'm certianly not overly femminite. Not that that matters. Point being, how do you deal with this kind of stuff without being mean, like hey, stop being so nice? I really just don't know what to do, but I don't like it cause I like doing things for myself, and I'm really independent. rawr.
Aw man that is so hard to tell someone. Like, you wanna say back off without actually saying "back off". I honestly dunno what you should do. Meep! Well, at least they are being overly *nice* and not constantly making jokes like: Why couldn't Helen Keller drive? Because she's a woman!
And trust me, there were far more jokes....bad ones....pitiful ones....irritating ones. But I just dunno how to tell someone you're offended by their *niceness* except by possibly saying that you want to be more independent. Or that you want equality in sales requirements, ect.
