brown_not_blue Another day, another save the world situation.
Okay, granted, it was simply a hospital full of people that had been transported to the moon. Still, the Judoon had their criminal, the hospital was back on Earth where it belonged and very few people died. Overall, reflected the Doctor, a reasonably good day.
Except, for the fact that there was nobody to share it with.
The Doctor lowered his head, bracing his hands on the console in the TARDIS. Ever since Rose fell to the alternate universe, he had traveled by himself. A few planets saved here and there, a few dictators and the like overthrown. He even took in a nebula or two. There was one thing he had not been able to do. One thing Rose had asked him to do when they said good - bye.
Find another hand to hold.
He had sworn that after Rose he would not travel with anybody else. For the last several months he had kept to that vow. It had not helped that the one person he had asked had turned him down. Granted, perhaps it had been a bit foolhardy to ask a woman who been sacrificed to a Rancross by her would - be husband on her wedding day to suddenly up and travel with an alien being.
His thoughts trailed back to Martha Jones, the med student who helped him. She had been thrown into a situation that defied all her comprehension and instead of panicking, she held her own. She was very different from Rose, in nearly everyway, but she was brave and strong in her own right. She had seemed almost disappointed when he waved good - bye.
The Doctor stared down at the console. He still felt it would be akin to betrayal to take on another companion so soon after Rose. Especially given that Rose had never been in his mind ‘just another companion.’ However the months of traveling by himself had taken a toll on the Time Lord. He missed having somebody around to share his joy at new discoveries or to help him out when things an adventure went awry.
Most of all, he missed and wanted a hand to hold.
There was no telling if Martha Jones would be any of those things. Her look of disappointment could have simply been that she had wanted to thank him for saving everybody in the hospital. She was training to become a doctor. She might not want to just take off on a whim and travel the stars with an alien and his little blue police box. Indeed she might just want to forget about everything that happened today and just go about what her normal everyday life had been before he had snuck into the hospital and it inadvertently got shipped off to the moon.
Still, it never hurt to at least ask.
Moving around the console, he found where Martha currently was in time and space in no time at all. For her, it would be several hours after everything on the moon, but it would be short enough to where she had not dismissed the whole thing as some mad hallucination yet.
“I’m a doctor. And I need a doctor,” he spoke to himself, noting some of the irony as he piloted the TARDIS back to the current location of one Martha Jones.
