TITLE: Sorry Like an Angel 1/?
AUTHOR: juliet316
FANDOM: Doctor Who/Torchwood
RATING: R
CONTENT: ADULT LANGUAGE (maybe), SLASH (if Ianto and Jack will cooperate, though since the fluffy slash is Jack and Ianto, do I really need to put a warning in this?), NON CON/RAPE.
CATEGORY: ADULT, HORROR, DRAMA, VIOLENCE
SPOILERS: Another alternate take on Journey's End in which much of the story took place, but Rose, and Jackie were unable to crossover at the time. Rose returns about six months to maybe a year after Journey's End to a much changed Doctor. Casting spoilers for Season Five of Doctor Who. Season Two Torchwood spoilers. The only spoiler from Season Three is the canonicity of Ianto's sister.
SUMMARY: The Doctor returns changed. Is he beyond saving? And is he really the Doctor anymore? Challenge response to the following quote at the quote_inspiredLJ community:

"Okay, tell me about practicing French kissing with the art girls at school."
"It wasn't French kissing."
"Don't care, make it up. That's an order, Jones. (Bridget Jones' Diary)

Does not appear in the prologue, but does make an appearance in the story.
My deadline was February 25th.
ADDITIONAL NOTES: I had this idea since before I heard that Martha Jones wouldn't be in Season Three of Torchwood and instead be in one of Tennant's final Who specials. So no spoilers for the remaining four Who specials either.
DISCLAIMER: Doctor Who and Torchwood are owned by the BBC. The characters featured in this story were created by Russell T. Davies. I make no money off of them.
DISTRIBUTION: FF.NET, WWOMB. Anywhere else, please ask.

Jack Harkness prowled restlessly across the silent hub. Mickey Smith and Rose Tyler were the only ones with him. Gwen Williams, formerly Cooper, had gone home to her husband, after Jack told her that there was nothing more to be done at TORCHWOOD. Ianto Jones had been visiting his sister, so he hadn't been here when things had started to go downhill when the Doctor arrived. As for Martha Jones...

She was due back from her trip soon enough. When she did, Jack hoped like hell they had some answers that soothed her. Soothed all of them. Because if there was none, then it meant that the Doctor, a man they trusted was a horrific, sadistic killer afterall.

'The recently regenerated Doctor', Jack corrected himself, A man with longish dark hair, and cold blue eyes that seemed far more to contain far more ice than even the blues of the first incarnation of the Doctor, the one that had just survived the Time War, that Jack had met so many centuries ago. Gone was the second incarnation Jack had met up with centuries later; a familiar tall, skinny man with brown hair that stood up on end, and brown eyes that held more warmth than dark eyes should. One look at those hooded eyes of this new Doctor, and Jack could believe this incarnation, his eleventh, from what Jack understood, was capable of many cruel things, including, if reports bearing his likeness were accurate, murder.

He hoped for all their sakes that they were wrong.

Jack looked back where Mickey and Rose were. Mickey was sitting against the wall in one corner of the empty autopsy room, dark eyes full of concern for the woman sitting Indian style in the center of it. There sat Rose Tyler, eyes closed as if in deep concentration. When Rose suggested her idea, one that she had learned trapped in the alternate universe of her astral projecting onto the TARDIS with the idea of being near invisible while investigating this incarnation of the Doctor, Jack had been reluctant. There were too many things that could go wrong, too many ways Rose could conceivably be caught. Jack for the first time since he had met the Doctor in the Blitz all those years ago, was genuinely afraid of the Doctor. Afraid of what this incarnation would do to them he caught them snooping around his ship.

Then came the phone call Martha received. The news reports of horrific actions with an accompanying description that could only fit one man. It heightened Jack’s concerns about what Rose wanted to do, but it also made it clear that there was no other choice. They had to find out what was truly going on with the Doctor and fast. Swallowing his fears, he reluctantly gave Rose the go - ahead to do her investigation of the TARDIS. He prayed to every being he no longer quite believed in that her astral self or whatever she wanted to call it made it out of there safely.

His dark thoughts were interrupted by a loud gasp as he turned his head sharply toward the sound. He saw Rose’s eyes having shot open and her gasping for breathe even has she scooted her self out of the mini - circle she had been in.

“Rose!” Jack shouted as he reached for her at the same time Mickey had. He could see her trembling now, brown orbs widened in fear and horror. He quickly reached for her and got a good look at the rest of her pale face. She looked like she had seen a ghost. Or the devil himself, Jack mused darkly.

“Rose?” he called to her again, putting a firm, but gentle grip on her shoulders as if to pull her back to reality. Maybe in fact he was doing exactly that. The look she gave him before burying her tear - stained face into his chest chilled him to the bone.

“Oh god, Jack,” she cried, her words muffled by her sobs and his chest. Her next words sent a stab of pain through his chest that had nothing to do with the various methods of death he had been through over the years.

“It’s him Jack. It’s the Doctor.”
