I don't think he'd like it, but even more than that, I don't think it's very meaningful to complain so publicly unless I'm ready to do something about it and "lead the revolution." Given the time I have/lack and the forces I'd have to go against right here in my own house and town, I think it's best to grin and bear it. I don't mean to make him (DH as they say) sound like he's crazy--he has problems with travel sports, too. He went to this weekend's tournament with me and thought it was a waste of time, but he thinks I'm exaggerating and over-generalizing that all travel weekends/days are like this one bad experience. (They aren't, but many are).
The other thing is that our family is in a rough period in terms of the ages of our children, and the fact that we have 3 of them. If I had just one child, I might love travel sports. You have to be careful about criticizing travel sports and offending parents of only children. I suppose I could make that point in such an article, but when I think more on it, I might really be putting Steve in an awkward situation when all of his players and their parents have been so heavily into travel sports for so many years. Maybe under a pen name (although it might have more impact if people knew my history.family circumstance)??? Maybe if I get mad enough, I will!
Challenge soccer is not bad at all if you're afraid of getting into that. Just one more practice a week, one tourney a year.

Yeah, I think you're right. People are that way about school, too, having their kids take all honors classes and then the poor kid has to slave away on homework until all hours of the night. It's one thing if a kid is really an honors caliber student, but they aren't all, and it's hard trying to live up to that. It's a lot of stress, and in this case it's all on the kid.

Parents are making their kids into trophies. They say it's "so he can get into a good college" but it's more than that.
