Bail

Julie woke up in a cold sweet on the jail cell floor.

How long have I been asleep? 5 minutes? 5 hours?

"Alright Ms. Storme, Madison or whatever the heck you call yourself. Someone is here and just paid your bail."

"I can go?" Julie asked in disbelief.

I wonder who paid my bail? Nobody but Bentley knows about me being back in Gotham.

...Kathy Duquesne, grinning at her as she comes out.

"Oh, come now, dearie," she smiles. "Did you really think the great Ms. Storme could come into Gotham without my hearing about it? I suppose you're lucky I was in town tonight... I've been spending more time out of Gotham than in it, lately. Busy busy busy!"

Julie tries to compose herself, but the last night has exhausted her physically and emotionally.

She collapses in Kathy's arms sobbing.

"Oh my god Kathy! It's been years. It's been horrible!"

She clicks her tongue at the police. "What have you done to this poor girl?" Before they can answer, she turns to Julie. "Well, let's get out of here. I've got my car outside now... they said you didn't have anything to check out. Where's your luggage?"

Julie tried to explain her story, but between her lack of sleep and hysterics it all came out in sobs.

"Burglar...tried to get my purse...arrested...my stuff...all my stuff".

Julie was embarassed at how she was conducting herself, but she had been so restraint during her first night in Gotham and seeing a familiar face had opened the floodgates of emotions.
