I'm not reading your review because I'm on about page 60 of this book and am enjoying it a lot so far!!! LOL, we are on the same wavelength lately, it seems!
What a coincidence, let me know what you think after you're done with it. I read it in one day, a quick read. I love Juliet's way of saying things, and the witty back and forth in the letters between her and Sidney and the millionaire.
Wanted to get back to you... LOVED, LOVED, LOVED this book!!!!
It's funny, the last two books I've read mentioned Elizabeth and Darcy in them (and this one has a slight nod to the romance which didn't immediately hit me)!
I think Juliet is quite like Elizabeth Bennet -- not to say she was a copy, but she's the kind of woman other women (like us!) like to read about -- fun and intelligent, self-deprecating and appreciates both sides of life -- the serious and the ridiculous, and can judge who fits on which side. :)
I have to admit, I knew nothing of Guernsey's history either. And what I like about this book is it's ability to be "light" but yet tackles such a heart-wrenching topic so well.
It's jumped up on my list of favourite books -- I also thoguht the epistolary way it was written really worked well. The characters could "write" their personalities and we could judge for ourselves.
