i'm at work right now, eating chocolate and drinking hot chocolate.

i really hate not being home right now. at least the past few days at school we've just been watching christmas movies. it's fun to see the students' reactions, and also, the american in me LOVES that they're *finally* getting a break. you'd be hard-pressed to convince me that students aren't worked too hard here.

on the weekend and christmas eve i baked cookies in what westerners would call an "easy bake oven" that substitutes for a real oven. it was a huge time investment but it paid off since i was able to eat mom's cookies here in taiwan. it sucks that mom wasn't here to make them and that christie and i weren't able to decorate demented snowmen together. so i was the mom -- making the cookie dough, frosting the cookies-- while dale, rebecca, and ziggy were my children. the only thing that kept me from being mom completely was my willingness to distribute cookie dough for eating.

also on the weekend, i went to the flower market. it must have been in the 80s on saturday. we now have an herb garden in our kitchen and a small, christmas-tree-like bush in our living room. it makes me happy. and at least the weather got colder for this week, so it feels a bit more like christmas.
