because of my parental heritage, i tend to save everything. i have to fight the urge. sometimes i find pieces of string that i've cut off new trendy clothing (they always opt for the ever more classy string over the more commonplace plastic tag attachers) laying on my desk, like i thought i'd be able to use a tiny piece of string for something later.

when that happens, i make myself throw it away. in taiwan, where almost every meal can come rubberbanded, however, i haven't managed to avoid the inevitable rubber band collection. there must be something useful i can do with them, if nothing else donate them back to a lunchbox shop.

the point of this post is this: airplane tickets (surprise! i bet you saw that one coming...)

christie is planning to come visit me, and tickets to taiwan cost close to the amount that you can make in one semester from workstudy. since i've amassed a decent amount of airmiles for a normal person (read, not a business person) i though i could cash them in for her. despite having close to 100,000 miles between my three most frequently used accounts, i come up way short for anything but a supersaver ticket. and you can't buy airfare in the summer using supersaver. during this investigation process, i noticed that my miles from my visit to thailand this year were mysteriously MIA. so i can submit a request to continental to credit those miles. problem is you need not only the receipt, but also the original boarding passes.

i think for most people, that might be a problem. even if you save junk like that for sentimental reasons, who knows if it's in your journal, a desk drawer, a purse, whatever. i, however, knew exactly where to look and within 10 minutes i found both of them. i was really proud of myself, and i knew that mom and dad would be proud of me too (dad for saving them, mom for knowing where they were).
