So this weekend was GREAT! I started to worry last week that I had given up my birthday to give this recital, but it turned out to be a great thing.
Saturday, Anne took me on a BIRTHDAY ADVENTURE. She wouldn't tell me where we were going, just handed me clues on the way to each destination, and I had to guess where we were going. We ate lunch at Panera (I love carbs!), then went to Forever 21 and bought cute shirts... this trip to the mall also included coughcoughtryingonpromdresses... because that will never get old. Then we went to the dollar store, because that's fun, and finally, she revealed our final destination: The Wal-Mart Portrait Studio! This turned out to be a hilarious adventure... we sat on a Wal-Mart bench for an hour and a half, making friends with people and just generally observing life at Wal-Mart. Then we got our portrait taken. It was $8. We get the prints Feb 22nd... and we plan to hang to 10x13 in our apartment next year. I can't wait.
Sunday was MY RECITAL! My family came for it, they got lots of good food, and my mom and sister did my hair for me. I had been freaking out about this recital for a while now, but when it came right down to it, I decided to forget the scary factor and just have fun. I'm scared of the spotlight, but I'm not gonna lie, I love it. I'm a flutist, can you blame me? I just wanted everyone to have fun and enjoy my music. I shook for the first few lines of my Sonata, but after that, it was pretty smooth sailing, and I had a lot of fun.
My favorite part came at the end: when I came out to take my final bow with David, my accompanist, he sat down and started to play happy birthday, and the whole audience sang to me. It was the greatest feeling in the world, knowing that all those people (it was a well-attended recital!) were there to support me and to hear me play. I have some really great friends.
Thank you, everyone who helped to make my 22nd birthday and recital so fantastic!
