Whew, I just got back from quite a week...I was gone for about ten days, and I actually did a lot of work, but it felt like a vacation!
I started off in East Lansing, celebrating Anne's belated 21st with a bunch of her friends...it was quite a night; lots of fun, and I have fun pictures from it. :)
Then it was onto Charlotte H.S. band camp up in Tustin, MI, where I spent five days leading sectionals and keeping kids on the correct foot. There was lots of drama at camp, but despite all the bad stuff I had a really good time. Anne kept asking me if I was having fun, because she thought I hated it there, but I'm gonna be honest, that week was better than any single week of lifeguarding this entire summer. I wish I could just teach band camps all summer - my flutes were so cute, and they got REALLY excited when I taught them how to do extra things like harmonics and whistle tones; they kept coming up to me and saying, "Look what I figured out how to do!!" I also changed my very first piccolo pad. Of course, that meant hanging out with Anne all week, and I missed her a lot this summer, so I was very glad I got to chill with her; that girl is my other half. I slept with her EVERY NIGHT and it was hot. Also, I met a new friend named Jessica who teaches up in the UP. People, don't ever teach in the UP. It's really really awful.
After Charlotte camp I drove down to Somerset Center for rank leader retreat, which was great because I got to bond with piccolos again and also meet new people! It's crazy how you can be in a group with people for two years and never even see them; craziness. My legs definitely feel worked out after all that marching, but now I'm ready for band camp. Tomorrow I have a day "off" which I plan to spend practicing, and of course doing some more marching and going through marching music with other piccolos.
Where the hell is Kristin? I want her to come back; I'm actually very excited for all my housemates to move in, because that means it's a new school year, and I love the beginning of the school year! I can't wait to go back and learn more about music. :) Shut up, you know you love it, too.
I can't believe how much better things are now than they were a month ago. Events are definitely on an upswing, and for that I am very grateful! Uh, sorry this is kind of long; I talk a lot.
