I love weekends that just make you smile. Last week was especially stressful, and I'm sure this week will be, as well, but this weekend provided just the right break I needed; even though it was really busy, it made me feel relaxed; that's how you know it's quality!
I'm counting the weekend as starting with Thursday night...Leah and I went to hear a performance of Mozart's mass in c minor and Requiem, played on period instruments. That was super sweet...the music just worked so well with the timbre of those old instruments...I was a fan, even after 2 hours of straight Mozart!
Friday I went to Grand Rapids for the Michigan Music Conference, which was expensive but cool. I learned stuff about putting together a school musical and being a performing musician even while teaching...plus I got lots of free stuff, hooray! It's kind of cool being around band directors all day; they're definitely a different breed of people, all who love doing what I do! I hope I don't let myself go as much as some of these women have, though...let's be honest, some of those sweaters had to have been made with elementary school teachers in mind - HIDEOUS. :) On the drive home, I was scared shitless for about an hour because of the thick, slippery snow that was falling, preventing me from seeing both the road and the cars in front of me...my wheels had very little traction, which is not a comforting feeling. I made it home okay, though, and then got to spend the evening with my favorite trumpet player (well, favorite MALE trumpet player, at least...I think Annie may have you beat, Ben) ;)
Saturday was busy...I had a voice lesson, which was cool, I like my voice teacher...then I had a rehearsal with the rest of the "We Kill Bitches" quintet. Always a good time. After that I had some time to actually clean my room - I can breathe in here now, hooray! Then I went to the DSO with Ben, John, and Joey...it was a pops concert featuring pieces from "Star Wars," complete with Stormtroopers and a lightsaber battle on stage. How cool is that?! When we got home we went to a "frat party" which was fun - there were a lot of people there from both the music school and the marching band, so I knew a lot of people. I also got to meet Anne's friends from State, who were really nice - I have already become their facebook friends, that's how you know the friendship is true, after all.
Today I played in church, helped at uniform turn-in, and then went to hear Wynton Marsalis and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra - as Leah said, "What a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon!" The concert put me in such a great mood; it's been awhile since I got to hear good jazz. The pianist was from Milwaukee! Good old Milwaukee. After the concert, I came back here and cleaned myself up and got some time to just work on homework, which is what I should be doing now, but I just had to get this all down because the weekend was just so fun. :) Nothing spectacular, but fun!
Two weeks until 21...who wants to come to the bars with me??!
