I just wanted to share my angius of being a republican in a democrat world. I know it's not a democrat world, but in California, it might as well be. I was at the Farmer's market with my mom and she saw someone she knew from her democratic club and went over to say hi. I don't know if you've ever been to the Morgan Hill Farmer's Market, but if you don't plan on buying any fruit yourself, there's not much to do there, so I kinda stood awkwardly waiting for her to ask the ineviable question. It did of course come up "So, is your daughter here registered to vote?" I smiled and said I was while trying my hardest to send telepathic messages to my mom not to tell her I wasn't a democrat cause I knew she'd turn on me. Sure enough my mom said "Yes, but unfortunetly she's on the other side since she takes after her father." I expected a certain amount of distance from the stranger who knew nothing about me but the fact I was registered Republican, but I was truly surprised from her next statement. "So, how come? Do you just hate the environment?" How does one respond to such an idiotic statement? Yes, I'm a republican, therefore I like to see all trees cut down to make papers in which we ban gay marriages and abortions and make more bibles to pass out to the children as they enter school. I just want to see the rich people get richer and the poor stay poorer and drill for oil in the middle of Yosemite and then, hell, nuke the place cause I heard that some arabs go there sometimes.
I am SO sick of all the stereotyping. I am a republican simply because I think the government shouldn't interfer with our daily lives any more than it needs to. Because I don't want stupid laws that say you're not allowed to put cake in a cookie jar or whatever other random thing comes up. Because I don't think it's far that just because you have more money to give to the government, that you're required to. That a raise equals a higher tax bracket.
I do find it ironic that most of the main issues the republican party fight for are the issues we should be going against, like the government telling someone they can't get rid of an unwanted embryo which resulted from a rape or even just a drunken frat party with a broken condom, or that the government has the right to tell two people their union is less right than the floozy marrying a dying rich man just because they both happen to have penises. And all the other odd issues that seem to amount to the goverment making up more rules than letting us live and let live. That's why I vote for the issue, not what my republican masters tell me to. I don't assume that all democrats are bums on welfare who are vegans that believe in free love and communism. Just the ideas of the republican party apeal to me more. And I don't think I should be condemned for it.
