I knew that I'd be missing my nephew during all this, as in fact I am, complicated a bit by the fact that my brother is now (apparently) neck deep in house hunting, and therefore has surfaced in the past couple of weeks only to send me a present (which was a basket of maple stuff from his area), in response to my sending him one lame present and one gift certificate for books for his birthday, plus a (long) list of My Personal SF/Fantasy Recommendations. So he's talked about neither one, nor responded to two minor "hey, did you want to Zoom sometime?" emails, but has sent me sugary maple stuff, and I think two pokes is enough for the moment, so I'll just let him be a) obsessive about houses and b) vaguely guilty about me, and eventually he'll possibly stop doing that. But, sigh. (Though I am of course aware that an 18 month old with no respite care is tiring.)
I did not really expect to be missing my parents, who in normal times I don't visit *that* much anyway, but I do. I have solved this in large part by going food shopping for them twice in two weeks, and enthusing at them from 6 feet away once I dropped the shopping off. This does mean I don't get to hug (and be hugged by) my mom, but that's better than either a) not seeing them, or b) potentially infecting them. It's just complicated and irritating.
I'm otherwise in the home stretch of the semester, and dealing with stir craziness by going off in a direction for awhile and then getting out of the car and taking a walk, which is to say, doing what I'd be doing anyway only differently, and with a mask on my person.
I met some ponies while doing so today. They were only surprising because it's a residential street and pretty near the Shaw's, but hey, ponies.
