But it's mostly to bitch.
The last couple of weeks have kinda sucked. 2 Fridays ago we had a crazy ice storm. On my way home, the people in front of me braked rather suddenly, and when I went to hit my brakes, nothing happened. Nothing. I've driven in snow and ice before, but I've never had anything like that happen. So next I tried to steer into the front yard of the people living along the street. Nothing again. So I'm frantically pumping my brakes and trying to steer one way or the other so I don't hit these people, and it was just not gonnna happen. I finally realize this and just kind of brace myself for the impact. I remember thinking "Oh shit I hope this doesn't hurt too much" right before it happened, and I also closed my eyes because I was a little afraid of the airbag going off. Luckily at the last microsecond my car did turn a bit, so I didn't hit them head on. I hit them on their back passenger side corner with my front driver side wheel corner area, and had scratches down my whole driver side. I finally went up onto the curb. Everybody was okay. The road was ridiclously icy. I almost slipped when I steped out of my car. The guy I hit thought it was hilarious that he could slide from my car to his without lifting his feet. The police didn't cite me. They said there was nothing I could do because of the road.
So, That wasn't that bad. The car was jacked up, and I know our rates will probably go up with our insurance company, but nobody got hurt, which was the most important thing. But, while I waited for the tow truck, I was stuck standing around in the snow (we gave up standing on the road because it was so slippery) with the police officer who was there staying with me for about 45 minutes. This all led to me having a horrible cold since then (it'll be 3 weeks this Friday). I'm going to the doctor Wednsday since I have the day off. It's been a weird cold though, I've mostly just been losing my voice very early in the morning and very late at night. Basically between 10:30 at night through 10:30 in the morning. THe rest of the day I'm a little scratchy, but for those hours it's crazy. I apparently sound like Katherine Hebpurn.
So last week, hit 3. Tuesday night Rosendolf went downstairs to get some sausage out for dinner and found 3 inches of standing water in the basement. It was bad. Really bad. It wasn't sewage or anything like that, thank God, but it was still bad. When all was said and done we didn't really end up losing much stuff, but it just seemed so bad at first. All the appliances still work, most of the important stuff was either in plastic tubs or up off the floor. We lost some books, some sentimental stuff and that's about it. We did have a couple of prelit Christmas trees down there, but they didn't get too wet. We haven't plugged them in yet,but I'm being optimistic about them.
This weekend we had a crazy snow storm. It basically snowed nonstop from 8:00 Friday morning through about 5:00 Saturday afternoon. All told we probably got about a foot to a foot and a half, depending on where you lived in the Tri-State. Thankfully Rosendolf's work let him off around noon Friday, and I followed at 2. It was fun to be snowed in at first, but then when we realized we didn't really have any milk or bread or lunchy type stuff, we got a little stir crazy. Mostly we played Nintendo, watched movies and hung out. It was nice and relaxing. I think we needed it.
And that brings us to yesterday. My battery was dead. In my obsession with making sure my headlights were on Friday for the drive home, I had accidentially turned my dome light on. So it basically drained the battery for the day and a half that it sat there. It sucked, especially since we were due for my sister's birthday dinner, but we were only a couple of hours late, and at least this time we had an excuse.
Okay, I'm done. That's my sad set of stories for the last couple of weeks. I'm just looking forward to some good luck now.
And to cap it off on a good note we hung out with the family and Olivia, who is now 3 and a half (!!!) was so sweet yesterday. She sat with me and asked me to read to her and told me she loved me lots of times, and "helped" me at Mario Party, and just made things seem a little less sucky.
