World, what is with the guilt trips lately? It's really discouraging when you're doing what you can to scrape by and try to make enough money to live your own life when people are reminding you that either a) FINDING JOBS IS EASY, LOL, WHY ARE YOU STILL WORKING AT A PIZZA PLACE or b) I'M LUCKY TO HAVE A JOB I'M GOING TO REMIND YOU, ONE OF MY BEST

That's not to mention the people who are prone to those 5-fingered discounts at department stores. My Younger!Sister has caught so many pathetic people denying or trying to blame their children for being the ones to 'accidentally slip something into my bag' & pin the crime on them. She was also called out to be a racist by moronically rude patrons because when a little Asian girl is doing her job catching shoplifters & singles out another person who does not appear like her makes her a complete racist. Seriously, pizza mongering isn't as 'dirty' or 'filthy' as it sounds.
Also, I can't help but think that the two spoiled girls you mentioned were hired for some kind of ulterior motive. If they didn't want that job & thought it was disgusting, why DIDN'T they go get a fancy job at a fab clothing store like they told you? Double standard much?
When it comes to blue collar jobs, you have to find out what works best for you, what makes you feel comfortable. If you really don't mind your job at all, don't let what others say about it get you down. No one has the right to tell you how bad your job is, especially when they have no experience in doing your job. You're obviously upset about not getting the hours that your boss originally promised you, & I would be, as well. Business at my work is currently the same but like you said--Once the fall semester begins & the hungry college kids return, hopefully you'll be needed to stay throughout your shifts & get your 20 hours in. Otherwise, I'd talk to your boss about it & confront the matter.

Also, my mum worked at JC Penny's last Christmas for a few extra bucks, and she bailed as quickly as she could. Besides the jerks, the fact that they had to call the police one time, the manipulative "secret shopper" teaching techniques that hurt a friend of hers, it also had its own brand of disgusting when it came to dressing rooms. I'm happy handling the food that DIDN'T go through the body, thanks.
(And no, I don't really think my job is as "filthy" as they made it sound. Cleaning up tables and tossing uneaten food, big deal. Me and my mom are guessing these girls don't even wash their own dishes because CLEANING OUT THE SINK TRAP IS SOOOOOOOO GROSS, EEEEEEEW.)
So yeah, like slipped in, I know that department store jobs aren't as "glamorous" and "easy" as they made it sound and am glad that JC Penny's didn't hire me when I was job searching after my mum worked there for just a MONTH before running away screaming. I cannot stress enough how much I hope reality hits these girls in the face. (Because lord knows I can't say what I want to say to those girls, they WERE customers. 9.9 I think they're the first two people to come close to Not Always Right material.)
I do remember business was much, much better when I was first hired on so I'm honestly not ~*that*~ worried, but when times and money are lean and you're getting pressured and criticized sometimes you do have to explode in a rant so I don't explode elsewhere.
