Fuck Microsoft with a big rubber dick

I heard about a deal I missed back on Black Friday from NewEgg for an ASUS Eee PC with Windows 7 Starter and a 9-hour battery for $250 or so. I was saddened because I have decided that I want one of these, as my laptop is too damn heavy to carry around. Imagine my joy when I heard earlier today that Microsoft was selling the same thing for $262 and free shipping.

Imagine my frustration when I realized that I couldn't get onto the MS Store page link on my government computer. Trying to go to the site via Google kept redirecting me to the German site. So, after lunch, I went to the MWR internet cafe to check on it. Imagine my rage when I learned that the deal was already dead. Worse than dead: sold out.

It turns out that it was for a limited number, and that number has already been reached. You can still buy it at the regular price though. Of course, it still shows as the sale price on the product page, but shows in the cart at $350 with a message that basically says "Sorry, limit reached, but still available at regular price."

Yeah, I was furious. Still am. So I decided to send them a little e-mail expressing my anger:

I just wanted to say that you people fucking suck. What the hell is the point of a sale from an online retailer limited to a specific number of people? Other than bait and switch. I am, of course, talking about this:

I read about this two hours ago, lost my internet connection, tried again now, and despite still being listed on the fucking page as $261.75, it shows in the cart as $349.99 because "There was a discount for this item, but it has been used the maximum number of times. You can now purchase more at the regular price."

What the fuck kind of bullshit is that?! I'd expect that from Best Buy on Black Friday, but not from the internet, not now, and especially not when the page hasn't been updated. You don't even mention "Limited to the first one hundred buyers" or something like that.

Tell you what. Why don't you hire a competent programmer, one who could, I dunno, write a chunk of ASP.NET code that would update the price on the product page itself.

You are Microsoft, right? You have a fucking army of competent programmers. Clearly, you also have an army of underhanded salespeople. I hope you all die in a fire.

Luke DeStevens

I aught to drop a line to the BBB.

So, I may never work for Microsoft now, but at least I have the satisfaction of having given them a piece of my mind. Fuckers.
