Life's little pleasures

Here in Grapevine is a lovely little place called Nash Farm. They host all kinds of seasonal events and allow people to come see all their antique farm equipment and pick cotton, etc.

But my favorite thing about this farm, which I drive by at least once a week, is the scarecrow couple - or rather, family. When we first moved here, there was one scarecrow. He was pretty average for a scarecrow. He would put on holiday-appropriate things occasionally, but mostly he was just a scarecrow.

Shortly after we arrived, Mr. Scarecrow started courting a female scarecrow. The two scarecrows were clearly dating, though I can't remember how I knew that. Maybe he gave her candy or flowers? Holidays would come along, and they would don cute holiday outfits. After a suitable period of courtship, they got married (i.e., had on wedding clothes). Then after a while, they had on construction-related garb as they were renovating their new home (I guess). Last year, Mrs. S. turned up pregnant. She even got a cute shirt this year that said BABY with an arrow pointing to her belly.

Then a few weeks ago, the scarecrows were gone! In their place, there was a stork with a sign: "Gone for Baby." You would think it was my sister going into labor to see how excited I got. But that doesn't even start to approach the level of giddiness I reached today when I drove by. Mr. and Mrs. Scarecrow are back, and they each have a hand on a handle of a basket with . . . a BABY SCARECROW! And it's so cute! (Couldn't tell if it was a boy or girl from where I was, though. Perhaps the blanket will give a clue when I get close enough.) OMG, I am so excited! I'm thinking about sending them a congrats card.

I know. I'm a crazy person.
