teaching??

Ok, So yesterday I got a email from the coordinator of my community service saying that I had to go to this random elementary school to meet with the director at 1 today.  Of course it was mandatory, and of course I had class until 12:45.  Well, lucky for me I am now aware of Mexico time, and I knew that if we were supposed to meet at 1, that I wouldn't be late because really we wouldn't be meeting until 1:45 or so.  So I got on the bus that went in the direction of the school with a friend who also had class until 12:45, and the bus went right by the elementary school (which was good, because otherwise we wouldnt have been able to find it, im sure).  So we get there about 1:30, and the other kids who had taken a taxi there so that they could be there on time where sitting on the floor waiting for the director.  So at about 1:45 (I am getting really good at mexico time) we meet with the director of english at the elementary school and then we met the english teachers who are not really that good at english...
But instead of having our own class and teaching for 4 hours a week, because we are entering so late into the semester we are going to be assistants to teachers who already have classes.  Each class has about 50 kids in it, and so they are harder to control and they definitely need our help...even though its not what we signed up for.  And instead of being there 4 hours a week, we are only going to be there for 2 hours a week.
Supposedly we start teaching/being assistants this monday....

well see.

I was going to hike up Izta, the 17,000 ft high mountain this weekend.  But I talked to my mom about it and learned some pretty terrifying things about altitude sickness.  After 10,000 feet your body is supposed to need 1-3 days to acclimatize to every additional 1,000 feet that you hike.  The problem is that there is so much less oxygen in the air.  Altitude sickness is what happens when for an unknown reason to certain people, at high altitudes.  It can strike males, females, fit, unfit, old, young, there isnt really a pattern to it.  What happens is the blood leaks out of your capillaries and pulls in your brain and lungs.  I mean, I'm sure that you can imagine that this is not such a good thing and can cause some serious problems if you don't watch out for it.  The only way to help the symptoms is to descend.

Anyway, my mom, being afraid for an excess of blood in my brain really doesn't want me to go.  And I have to say, I think it makes good sense, especially because I was feeling symptoms of it at 14,000 feet when I went to Malinche.

So, I am not doing mountaineering this weekend.  Instead I think I am just gunna chill out in Puebla and probably visit some near by Italian cheese makers.
