Goals for the Offseason

Yeah, so it's not technically the offseason - but it's MY offseason now that the Cardinals are out. Since I always have so much more free time when I'm not watching baseball every night, I find that the offseason's a great time to set some goals. Mine include:

1) Reading more. I just paid my $37 (!!!!!) library fine, and hope to turn off the TV and catch up on my literature for the next few months. I just got "The American Way of Death Revisted" (an expose of the funeral industry by Jessica Mitford) and "The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency," by Alexander McCall Smith, which was recommended on a Washington Post chat. I used to love mysteries but haven't read any in years, so I don't know if I'll go for this one or not. We'll see.

2) Live up to flylady's standards. I don't know if I can manage that - although I do love my newly shiny sink.

3) Beat Cheryl at Scrabble. Oh yes, IT WILL HAPPEN. I've been using Zyzzyva to study new words every day, and am cautiously optimistic about next month's Scrabble Sunday. We'll see. She's pretty much schooled me every time we've played so far, so I can't get too cocky.

4) Budget. Ach, this one is SO difficult for me.

5) Go on 10 dates. Not a huge or worthy goal, but since I'm dreadful at dating and tend to freak out when romance comes my way, I think this is the best way to conquer my inner demons.

6) Get eight hours most nights. Highly unlikely.

7) Cheer against the cubs. I read this on the Internet and definitely share the sentiment: When the Cardinals make the playoffs, I have one team to root for. When the Cubs make the playoffs and the Cardinals don't, I have seven teams to root for. My chances of success go up dramatically.
