Blind dates and television

Latest adventures.

The blind date: I met this Australian couple at a bar on Saturday night, and we all got along so well that they decided to play matchmaker and set me up with a friend of theirs. He's apparently another Aussie, a tennis pro. So this guy Dave calls the friend and has me leave a voicemail (it is THREE AM, by the way), and I basically said "I'm not sure if this is pathetic, or weird, or what - but I like meeting new people, so give me a ring." And he DID. Who knew? We're meeting for drinks on Wednesday; I doubt anything will come of it, but it's still a bit exciting, in any case.

The procrastination: We finally got our Directv working and my roommates and I (especially Emily) have already turned into zombies. I have a dozen scripts to read for NYMF and two reviews to write, and I can't stop watching baseball. (And now: playing on the internet.)

The brewery: Despite all the stuff I needed to do on Saturday, I went to Brooklyn Brewery. As a native St. Louisan, I feel expertly qualified in evaluating brewery tours. See, Anheuser-Busch's free tour is a staple of the St. Louis touristry circuit, and I've taken visiting friends with me many, many times. So the Brooklyn tour is excellent in terms of theatricality and entertainment, but terrible in terms of finding out how they make their beer. The taproom was great, though. There was a freewheeling, casual feel to the whole place - we all sat on picnic benches and brought our own food. Picnic benches are actually an awesome idea for bars, because you're almost required to make friends with the people around you. Which we did - we met this awesome pair of guys from Connecticut. One of them, whose name I've forgotten by now, couldn't stop talking about how cool we were. "So the only thing you love more than beer is baseball?" As you can guess, it was a great time. Williamsburg is a LOT of fun.

The Cardinals: I'll be going to see them in Philly for the opening series, and then off to St. Louis for my very first game at New Busch (on my 28th birthday, no less!). I know that I've been against the new stadium and think it's going to be bland and formulaic. But I've been looking at the new photos a lot lately, and I have to say that I may have been wrong. The intimacy, the view of the St. Louis skyline, the creative touches - I think it's going to be spectacular.

The end: Seriously. Too much to do to go on..
