I have come to the point where I just can't stand looking for books in the Queens Campus of St. John's! No matter WHAT book, from literature to politics, the books that I have needed have NEVER BEEN HERE!!! WHY do we call this a library if it does not contain the up-to-date books that students need for research?
In my history class, we are now moving into the French Revolution and we each need a copy of "The Social Contract" by Rousseau (French philosopher). I was going to just print it offline, but when I saw how many pages it was (178) I was just like, "WHOA!!!! Forget that! Let me just get it from the library!" I went to the NY Public Library's page, but I am on hold, so I decided to use the school library's catalog in HIGH HOPES of finding my book.
WHY are ALL the (necessary ) copies of this book at the Staten Island campus? AND, for the ones that ARE HERE....WHY are they all in FRENCH?! WHY are the books from the 40's and 60's? I am sure that from both the years of 1946 and 1962 the world has changed since then! I mean, really now....The school HAS to be making big time money...WHERE does it all go if not on the resources that the students need to get a QUALITY education? Yeah, the "free" laptops for every student play a role into the high cost of running this university, but I am SURE that they get a discount of some sort since they buy THOUSANDS of them every year from IBM! I just don't know why the books and their availability in this library are this way. It doesn't make sense to me.
I have a 3:05 class that I must leave for now. Can't be late! All about excellence! I have to go to the 2nd floor of the library to request that the book be sent from the Staten Island campus in the next day or so. For tonight I will just read the work on-line. (Thank God for the Internet!)
Later!
