You are your worst enemy.
I have heard this phrase so many times before and you know what...sometimes I believe that it is true: you ARE your worst enemy. Yes, there are individuals out there who hate you, do not want anything good for your life, and/or seek to make sure that you never get anything accomplished or get ahead in life, but I believe that sometimes you do that to yourself.
I used to have this problem. I always stopped myself from doing something because it was "different" or because no one else did it. Well, no one else did certain things because NO ONE ELSE thought of what I would do and if they did, they never put their thoughts into action. People tend to do these things, such as holding themselves back because of fear: fear of rejection and disapproval from others. Well, my question is how can you be afraid of rejection when you never take any action? You will never know if people approve if you never make a move! Be proactive! Launch out into the deep! If you never make a move, you will stunt your growth and become stagnant because there will be no progress.
Therefore, STOP being your worst enemy by underestimating yourself. STOP telling yourself that you can't! Be the Little Engine That Could, but instead of saying, "I THINK I can, I THINK I can!", say, "I KNOW I can, I KNOW I can!" Just believe it, make a move, and the rest will follow. If it's meant to be it will be. Think of it this way, if no one ever dared to do the unthinkable or the "unpopular" thing, life would not be the same because we wouldn't have some of the inventions that make life what it is today.
Just believe in youself. Don't be your worst enemy. It's all up to you. Dare to dream. Dare to think. Dare to be yourself and not anybody else.
