It's Like An Onion...

"It's like an onion: the deeper you get, the more you cry, and the more it stinks."

This was said by someone I haven't spoken to in a while, about 1/2 an hour ago on the phone. We were speaking about life in general, and I said, "You know, sometimes you have to go backwards, into your past in order to go forward." What I meant was that there are going to be times in your life when in order to progress you have to dig up and unroot some of the issues that will hold you back. These issues are things or circumstances that you need to get over. One example is hurt after a bad relationship. I know that situations like that deeply affect an individual, his/her relationships, his/her ability to fully love, and/or maybe his or her ability to function in life, but in order to fully heal, the person MUST let go. The past is the past and it will always remain that way. We go through things in life to learn from them so that the next day will be better and brighter. To me, a part of living in Christ (a.k.a.:fully living) is letting go of the past or certain things in it because that is just what it is...the past; it's gone.

I know that going backwards, trying to uproot situations in your life may be difficult, but it is worth it. Just as the quote above says, the deeper into your past you get, like the many layers of an onion, the more it will make you cry and the more it will stink! But, just know that it will work in your favor. As I read this morning, the storms in/of life only come to make you have deeper roots (good roots). These roots should be founded in Christ.
