Ok, this is ridiculous. I've had this cold for a week and a half now. I think the problem is, I really don't feel too bad, I just have this horrid cough and a little chest congestion. I promised I'd call the doctor today, but of course today I feel a little better... oh brother!
I think the last time I wrote I was working from home, yes? Ok, let me tell you about Saturday.
Saturday was a Very Good Day. Didn't start out very promising... I got up, got ready for Festival (Pirate day, Arrr!), and got a call from the on-call person at work. Our ground station in Puerto Rico is still broken. So I spent about an hour redoing the schedule and a couple of other things. Checked with the on-call person, and was still able to get to Faire, not too long after it opened, so that was good. I made it to Fight School, and my two friends C and S made it in time for Fight School too. It was so great! There was a little girl sitting by me, and she was having a terrific time, laughing at the antics of Hamish and Dash. My favorite thing was in the quarterstaff fight. Hamish didn't have what passes for the Man Sash these days, so there was a little banter about the Man Sash, and I said (not thinking it was loud enough for them to hear), with a sigh, "I miss the Man Sash." Well, Hamish heard me, and said "Thank You" just as Dash knocked him to the ground. That was kind of neat, although I normally don't like to interrupt performers while they're performing. It encouraged the little girl next to me to warn the Fight School Boys that the king was near a little later, but they were fine with that and told her that the King was aware that they had a show.
After Fight School, I and my friends waited for Dash. He'd requested pictures of Fight School via the FoMDRF board, and I brought two CD's (probably not full, but that's ok too) for him. So afterward we waited while the FSB's took pictures with some younger fans. Then Dash came over to us! He said he liked the pictures I'd put up on the web (www.flickr.com/photos/julia0925 in case you forgot), and I handed him the CD's. He was very happy and even gave me a hug! That was great. Now goldilocks can relax, I've started talking to the Fight School boys (although I could kick myself for not telling her that on Saturday! please to forgive thoughtless blonde person!). Yay!!
After Fight School, C, S and I wandered for a bit. It wasn't terribly hot, so we all got soup in bread bowls for lunch. Then we did the circuit of shops. While in the White Hart Tavern area, I took the opportunity to say hello to some FoMDRF board members (the ones I recognized), and introduced C and S. I missed Lady Ravenwolves, though :( I ran into goldilocks as we were shopping. We went through the shops, doing a little purchasing, and it occurred to me that my nieces would love jewelery for Christmas. So I mostly just looked, because when I tried to call my niece Daely, the phone number was wrong (I have since acquired both new phone number and approval of the idea). Daely is my oldest niece, and is a great sounding board for things having to do with that particular family.
So we shopped until we were tired, then we went to see 'O'. I love O. He's really great to watch. And in this show, La La helped him. It was fun. I haven't put up my pictures of this last weekend yet, but I will (and it will be the same link as above). Then we wandered over to the Globe to see Shakespeare's Skum in "O that Lear!" It was... interesting... I'm afraid I really don't appreciate their humor. The rest of the audience did, though. They're very good at what they do, I'll give them that.
And then it was about 4:30, so we wandered back towards the Market Stage. There wasn't a show before Fight School:RELOADED!, so I was surprised to see that most of the best seats were already taken. they were camped out for Fight School. Not that I blame them, but if I'd had any idea I'd've skipped Skum and gone straight there! Fortunately, there will be a show there before Fight School the next times I come, so that should make it easier to get a better seat (when the audience changes). Unless they're like me and go to the pre-show just to have a good seat for Fight School. sometimes I really wonder about myself...
I had to leave just after Fight School, so C and S decided to leave with me. S had brought me a present for my birthday, so we went out to their car and got it. A Star Wars Calendar! the one with the posters. It's just beautiful.
that evening was the Relief Society General Conference session (a church thing). There was a dinner at 7:00pm, which I made it just in time for, and got to sit with my friends from my ward. Then we went into the chapel and were able to watch a short presentation of the service activities our RS had done that year. I was happy to see some of the little angel dresses I'd made, but it was so great to see all the things that had been made that year. And the year isn't over yet!
the conference was fabulous (satellite transmission from Salt Lake City). What struck me the most was that every speaker mentioned the different types of women in Relief Society. Given that every woman 18 years or older that is a member of our church is a member of Relief Society, we get women from all walks of life. But the groups I mentioned are the young unmarried women, the older single women, the young mothers, the older mothers, the single mothers, the grandmothers, the widows... Most of the time, with very few exceptions, all they ever talk about are the Mothers. If we were lucky, we'd get a paragraph about those who are Single. I know I always felt a little left out. But there's so much more to us than just that. It was so nice to hear all of us be acknowledged. Validating, even. Much of what they talked about was service, and how we can be of service to others, that service allows both the giver and the receiver to feel the love of Christ. i really liked that.
Saturday was a very good day. Sunday was fun too, although I was worse off for having spent the previous day in the dusty confines of Revel Grove. I went to Sacrament Meeting, but then I went home to rest. I opened my presents (and as I know my sister Dustie reads this--Thank you!!! I loved both DVD sets! The official thank-you card is on its way!), and I made cake and Mexican Lasagna for dinner. And I watched The King and I, and the first episode of "The Greatest American Hero", and then Charmed (season premiere, you know). I think I watched something else too, but I can't remember... I know I taped The West Wing, but I watched that on Monday.
so the rest of the week has been ok--I still sound like a baby seal, but I still think I'm getting better. Last night I actually made it to bed a little earlier, although I couldn't fall asleep, so I got up, did my stress-relieving yoga routine, and when I climbed back in bed I fell right to sleep. I love yoga. this has been rather long and wordy, but I hope you enjoyed it :)
