Well, this is weird. I was just considering getting off of Facebook for the so-manieth time. Just like every time, I told myself "Damn, I wish Livejournal was still here. That was the best part of the internet and it's gone forever now".
Then I remembered that actuallllllly.... it isn't gone forever. It still exists on the internet, a shambling, rotting dinosaur lumbering around like a living museum. We never stopped using it because we couldn't use it anymore. We just stopped using it because there seemed to be shinier apps like Facebook and Tumblr and Instagram. Step by step we just started existing there and stopped existing here.
Along the way, we got used to sharing our lives superficially online with a LOT of people, instead of sharing deeply with just a few people. I invented Slack (you know, personally) to get some of that sharing back and it worked really well for the day-to-day stuff. But not for the longer, deeper thoughts that required more than crazy parrot emoji.
So I checked LiveJournal out again, out of nostalgia. As it turned out, it still exists. Not only that, but it has a snazzier lay-out, a new editor and even an app. Not so bad for a living dinosaur museum. I'm not sure what to do now. I'm writing this purely for the joy of writing something on LiveJournal. But how would I ever get people to join me on here again?
