I am starting to think that it will be winter forever. Whenever I am leaving work and I see the fifteen foot snow banks by the side of the road, I lose a little bit more faith that spring will ever come. Yeah, sure, it is only February, but seriously, when is it going to start getting warm?
In other news, I just finished The Paradox of Choice by Barry Schwartz. It was actually really good and it made sense to me. He infuses why more is not better than less and tries to explain why we as a society are way more depressed than a few generations ago. All these choices that we have are leading to more regret over picking the wrong option and always wondering what could have been, we are starting to expect more from everything and get disappointed when things aren't the way we feel they should be. We keep raising our standards so that it is almost impossible to be content. For the most part, I am content. I wish my computer had more of a hard drive, and I'm looking at desktops to fix that, but other than that, I'm good. I've had Chia for seventeen months now, and I'm still in that newlywed stage with her. I still look back at her after I walk away, I get a smile on my face when I see her, I keep her as clean as can be (I can only control the inside right now, I hate salt) and I haven't been looking for anything better. Another reason why I like the book is that it seemed to go along with being Green, at least in my head it did. Limiting options, being happier, it all seems connected to being organic and environmentally friendly.
This week has been above average. On Tuesday Bucky came back from his adventure with Jess. It was her birthday on Thursday and her and her mother went to North Star Casino. I told her that Bucky would be willing to go as a good luck charm, so I sent Bucky with a dollar bill and told them to have a good time. Jess made Bucky a special Valentine's day shirt with these magenta hearts on it. I told her that if Bucky won, he got to keep the money. So on Tuesday she returns with Bucky and pictures that are ready for scrap booking. They tell a wonderful story. Bucky was a good boy and helped Jess a little bit, but not enough as she still didn't come out ahead. She searched for the perfect machine for Bucky and found it- The Booty Machine. It was the tackiest, piratest, machine she could find and it was a nickel machine. So she put in Bucky's dollar and he quadrupled his money. Now, for awhile I was concerned that Jess might ask me for a bunch of money because Bucky got addicted and couldn't stop gambling. But that wasn't the case. He cashed out and took his four dollars. When he got back home, he rolled around in the money. I have the pictures. I also have pictures of Jess and her mom outside the casino, Jess's mom is giving Bucky bunny ears with a look of, "I can't believe my daughter is making me do this". They had a pretty full weekend from the pictures- they went to an estate sale, went to Stevens Point, Bucky even helped Jess shovel. They also made me a potholder. Which was just about the most awesome thing, and it is even rainbow. And Tuesday was also my sisters birthday, so I baked her a cake and we hung out a little bit. She is 29. Wow.
Wednesday was also a super day. I got up relatively early, read a bit, had lunch with Lauryn, went to the library, went to the Sweet Shop and they had Orange Custard Chocolate Chip ice cream which just about made my month, had some chai tea with my iPod and book, came home and watched some South Park, and watched the Lunar Eclipse. It was gorgeous. I only wish that it wasn't so cold out or that I had windows facing that direction. After 30 minutes of being in the cold, I had to go back inside. But it was super, my first lunar eclipse. Today was a good day, I got to work with Darrin, we each got our ad done, and we got Pauly's done too, so tomorrow I just have to set three sections of dvd boxed sets under 20$ (hint: one of them is Saved By The Bell - The College Years). Speaking of that, I saw the episode where Zach and Lisa get together and I was wondering why it was such a good show. Maybe it is that I am now 25 and not in middle/high school anymore that I am seeing it for how it really was. The hair and the clothes? Good lord, what were we thinking! Captain was fun today, I helped her with her job for an hour because I didn't want to do mine anymore. And she was happy with the assistance.
Tomorrow, or rather later today will be boring because Captain won't be there. Wendy apparently has plans to be in my cousins cousins movie, but I have plans with Pam on Saturday, so it should be fun. I'll also be able to hang out with my sister a bit, which is super. I dig her. Even though we have nothing in common. It was so funny, she was telling me what Kendra got her for her birthday and I couldn't stop laughing. I guess last week Kendra made her a small pillow thing at her great grandma's and gave it to her. Then on Tuesday, Kendra asked for the bag that Brenda's present came in and put her present in there. She gave her back the pillow she had already given her and said, "here's some stuff from my room" and gave her a few pens, an eraser and probably a sticker or two knowing my niece. I thought it was about the cutest thing I ever heard. I should try to go to bed now. Insomnia blows.
In May I am super excited about the Tegan and Sara concert happening in Madison. I have plans to go with Pam, Kelly, and Wendy. We will be staying overnight, it is on a Tuesday night, which is super because that means that after the awesome concert we can go to Club 5 and all of us can go since it is underage night! Woo hoo!
