"Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter." -- MLK

Today, I give you two quotes (three, including the subject):

Nonviolence is the answer
to the crucial political and moral questions of our time:
the need for man to overcome oppression and violence
without resorting to oppression and violence.
Man must evolve for all human conflict
a method which rejects revenge, aggression and retaliation.
The foundation of such a method is love.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Nobel Peace Prize acceptance speech,
Stockholm, Sweden, December 11, 1964

The ultimate weakness of violence is that it is a descending spiral,
begetting the very thing it seeks to destroy.
Instead of diminishing evil, it multiplies it.
Through violence you may murder the liar,
but you cannot murder the lie, nor establish the truth.
Through violence you may murder the hater,
but you do not murder hate.
In fact, violence merely increases hate.
So it goes.
Returning violence for violence multiplies violence,
adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness:
only light can do that.
Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

It is also known as a Day of Service, so if you have the day off work, I urge you to do something for your fellow man. Your neighbor. Pay the toll for the vehicle behind you, give an extra tip to a waitperson, donate your time to a community project. Donate a few dollars to a worthy charity, give a kind word to a stranger. Spend extra time with your family, eat a meal together, play games. Shovel someone's walk or driveway, carry someone's groceries.

Love, just love.
