Before I write about my day, I'm writing about Rent.
It was amazing.
It was phenomenal.
It was wonderful.
It was fantastic.
It was incredible.
I can't think of any more words to describe it. It was literally indescribable, even though I can't stop blabbering on and on about it.
Adam Pascal? Amazing. Rosario Dawson? Incredible. Wilson Jermaine Heredia? Wonderful. Anthony Rapp and Tracie Thomas? Outstanding. Jesse L. Martin? Awesome. Idina Menzel and Taye Diggs? Hilarious and so awesome to watch because they play "enemies" and they're married in real life! They met when they were performing Rent on Broadway ten years ago. Adam Pascal... oh man. When I heard him start singing when the movie started, I just wanted to cry. I love him so much. He's my hero :-) And so cute!!! Hehe. Rosario Dawson was a great Mimi. She wasn't Daphne Rubin-Vega, but I'll tell you this: she's pretty damn close. She was incredible. I just loved her as Mimi. She was great.
I still can't get over the beginning of the movie... but I'll keep my lips sealed in case any of you want to see it!
And the ending? I was wondering how they'd take care of it, because they couldn't do it how they do in the play, because it just doesn't work with the storyline for a movie... but how they ended this movie... I sobbed. It was amazing. The perfect ending. I wouldn't have had them end it any other way.
We all (my family, Claire, Megan, Leslie, Jake and Matt) went to see it. At the end, Jeremy, Jake and Matt left. The rest of us stayed behind to watch the credits. And I'm glad we did. We were the only ones left in the theatre. We were singing along during the credits... at the very end of the credits, it said
Thank you Jonathon Larson.
That made us tear up all over again!
The movie was phenomenal.
I laughed.
I cried.
I was so overcome with emotion, I just don't know what to say about it.
I loved it with every fiber of my being. It's my new favourite movie. Favourite of favourites. I loved it even more than I thought I would.
I can't wait to see it again. I think I'm going on Friday with Cailey, and Holly if she's not with Travis.
Anyway... enough about my amazing night....
School was alright today.
We had a high school sharing. It was in the dance room. It was fun. Dance company did Brittany and Claire's hip-hop dance. And then Cantantes sang. Elise, Eeva, Jin, Merle and Nickolay sang Head, Shoulders Knees and Toes... in their own languages. They each did it once by themselves. Elise sang it in English, Eeve in Spanish, Jin in Korean, Merle in German, and Nickolay in Russian. Then they sang it again... all together. So we had English, Spanish, Korean, German and Russian going on at the same time. It was so funny. I love our exchange students :-)
The best was when Ben and Jim sang while Jim played guitar... Ben did harmony with Jim's vocals... they sounded amazing. Seriously. They don't know how great they sounded. I could've cried. I love those two so much. I've known them for 10 years. They were great. Then they sang this improvisation song about Thanksgiving, killing cows and turkeys, and how you should be a vegetarian. It was hilarious. They had harmony and backup vocals with it and everything. It was awesome.
This is going to be a short entry. There is so much I really want to say, but everything I'm feeling right now (Rent, my day and just life in general combined) is so overwhelming, that I don't really even know what to write...
Here's one of the songs Ben and Jim sang...
There was a decorated general with a heart of gold
That likened him to all the stories he told
Of past battles won and lost and legends of old
A seasoned veteran in his own time
On the battlefield he gained respectful fame
With many medals of bravery and stripes to his name
He grew a beard as soon as he could to cover the scars on his face
And always urged his men on
But on the eve of great battle with the infantry in dream
The old general tossed in his sleep and wrestled with its meaning
He awoke from the night to tell what he had seen
And walked slowly out of his tent
All the men held tall with their chests in the air
With a courage in their blood and a fire in their stare
It was a grey morning and they all wondered how they would fare
'Til the old general told them to go home
He said, "I have seen the others and I have discovered
That this fight is not worth fighting
And I've seen their mothers and I will no other
To follow me where I'm going.
So take a shower and shine your shoes
You've got no time to lose
You are young men, you must be living
Take a shower and shine your shoes
You've got no time to lose
You are young men, you must be living
Go now, you are forgiven."
But the men stood fast with their guns on their shoulders
Not knowing what to do with the contradicting orders
The general said he would do his own duty
But he would extend it no further
The men could go as they pleased
But not a man moved
Their eyes gazed straight ahead
'Til one by one they stepped back and not a word was said
The old general was left with his own words
Echoing in his head
He then prepared to fight
He said, "I have seen the others and I have discovered
That this fight is not worth fighting
No, and I've seen their mothers
And I will no other to follow me where I'm going
So take a shower and shine your shoes
You've got no time to lose
You are young men, you must be living
Take a shower and shine your shoes
You've got no time to lose
You are young men, you must be living
Go now, you are forgiven."
Go now, you are forgiven
Go now, you are forgiven
Go now, you are forgiven
Go now, you got to be
~ Dispatch; General
And I MUST include at least one of these songs, or else it would be just plain blasphemy... ;-)
Your eyes, as we said our goodbyes
Can't get them out of my mind and I find I can't hide
From your eyes, the ones the took me by surprise
The night you came into my life, where there's moonlight I see your eyes
How'd I let you slip away when I'm longing so to hold you?
Now I'd die for one more day, because there's something I should have told you
There's something I should have told you
When I looked into your eyes
Why does distance make us wise?
You were the song all along and before the song dies
I should tell you, I should tell you
I have always loved you
You can see it in my eyes
