If my apartment was allowed pets I would HAPPILY pick them up this weekend.

Your apartment does allow pets.

It's against the law to refuse a tenant to keep a pet, unless that pet can be shown to be a danger and/or cause extensive property damage.

Any terms in a lease agreement that prohibit pets is immediatly null and void without affecting the remainder of the lease.

It's in the Ontario Landlord and Tenant Act. http://www.ontariotenants.ca/law/law.phtml#Q6

He is correct. They can try to make your life miserable enough to make you want to leave, or refuse to rent to you or renew your lease so long as they pretend they are not doing it because you have pets, but yes, a landlord is not allowed to restrict your lifestyle. Many landlords put a no pets clause in the lease illegally in the hopes that tenants won't know it violates their rights, but they cannot rewrite the law so suit their tastes.

I wish that law existed in BC. D: Thank goodness my landlords have their own cat and think mine is cute!

I kinda want a chinchilla, but a) I'm WAY too far away and b) I don't think I could look after it properly between work and school. :(

Even if it says on the papers I signed that I wont own or get a pet?

See, Im worried cause Im not really on a lease. I have to give 2 months notive befor I leave, thats it.

So Im worried if I get a pet he'll just be like "Here is your 2 months notice to leave"

Even though I've noticed the people o nthe back of the building of a leash hanging off their close lines and chewtoys......so i think they have a dog.

What the heck did you sign, if it wasn't a lease?

BTW: They must go together -- they are bonded sibs & have always been together.
