Just got home from Bruce a little while ago.
AMAZING show. The crowd, the setlist... 31 songs and nearly 3.5 hours of pure bliss. He opened with "The Price You Pay," which has basically been the Holy Grail of Bruce songs, going unplayed for about 30 years or so. My sister being a doofus didn't ruin it -- the people in front of us were backstage prior to the show and had a copy of the setlist. I told her I didn't want to know anything, and she complied; then she asked me, "What's 'Price' mean?" ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Still didn't believe it. Awesome, awesome songs Bruce pulled out of his hat for these shows.
Other highlights: "Dancing in the Dark," during which Bruce pulled his mom on stage to do the Courteney Cox dance, "Higher and Higher," a sign request that was great fun, "The River," "Born the Run" (for real, the crowd was awesome), "Loose Ends," another sign request, "Spirit in the Night" with Vini Lopez on drums, "Kitty's Back" (this is one for the aficionados - my sister wasn't into it at all, and when he played it to close back in April, my mom thought it was a lousy way to end it; I fuckin' love it), and "Save the Last Dance For Me," for the last round at the Spectrum.
Just before the show, Joe Torre showed up about 5 rows in front of us. As more and more people noticed, the crowd started chanting, "Beat L.A." in good fun. Everyone was respectful (except for blatantly flashing cameras in his face), which was really nice. He left before the end of the show, though. OH, these guys in the row in front of me, just slightly to my right -- one of them was WASTED at the start of the show. Dude was CRYING, and spent the whole night (before he basically passed out across the seats trying to find his way out mid-show) embracing his friend, arms around his neck, singing in his ears. SERIOUSLY,
CHECK THIS SHIT OUT (I HAD to take a picture).
Still grinning ear to ear. I got my "Backstreets" on night one (and just hearing the whole Born to Run album was incredible, and, no lie, there was some misting), all the awesomeness of tonight. THIS is why I'm a fiend and go to as many shows as I can('t) afford.
TOTALLY ON A BRUCE HIGH, WILL I SLEEP? PHILLY + BRUCE = OTP (PHRUUUUUCE? BRILLY?)
5:53am ETA: No, I will not sleep, clearly.
