Hey all.
It's been FOREVER since I've posted. College is keeping me extremely busy that I don't have time to hardly think!
I'm staying up this late to remember to change the clocks because my roommate is with her family right now in a hotel downtown. I have the whole room to myself, YEAY!
College has been a very new, interesting and trying experience. I've learned new things about myself and I've definately changed a lot since I've gotten here and it's only been a mere 2-ish months.
It's so strange to basically be on your own with no parents. I'm 3 hours away from home and just went home for the first time last weekend. It was great to see everyone but I hardly had time to relax.
I'm majoring in broadcasting and I'm doing alright so far. I'm getting average/ a little above average grades for a freshman so I'm not complaining. I do go to tutoring now for introductory psychology and I have to complete 4 credits of psych. studies. So far I have one I'm doing on Monday and I'll probably do them all before Thanksgiving break. I have 2 more music concerts to go to but I enjoy those and I have 2 more liberal education events. Not to mention I haven't done any of my homework and I have to read quit a bit and do a small 1 page reflection paper, I'll probably bull shit that one. I'm excited to be coming home for Thanksgving in about 2 weeks and a couple of days.
Oh, big news that I forgot to mention. I am a DJ on the student run radio station. I do 3 hrs. a week. On Tuesdays, I do a show called "Rock n' Roll Radio" w/ my co-host and friend Jeff. We're on from 2-3 p.m. Then on Thursday, I do my own personal show called "The Classic Rock Review" which is from 12-1 in the afternoon and then right after is "Rock n' Roll Radio" from 1-2 p.m. with Jeff. I get to stay there in the studio for 2 hours. It's loads of fun and I'm doing it next semester too. If anyone wants to listen, never fear! It's online. The website is www.thewhale.org
Once you get there, you can check the schedule/play lists and you click on the button that says "Click here to listen live." It should open up whatever music player you have. Now, if you are in school and I know most of you are during those times, you can download a program called mp3 my mp3 and set it up so it'll record the show. I've done it a couple of times and boy is it weird to hear yourself on air. We play classic rock/oldies mainly like stuff from the 60's, 70's, and 80's but we've played more recent stuff too. I tend to do specialty shows and play student bands.
It's such great experience for me. I've had a hard time transitioning. Omg, I think I cried almost every day for at least a month and then I got over it. 3 hours is a long ways away and my parents come up like every 2-3 weeks.
There are a lot of fun things to do here and I've met some new people. I recently met a new guy and he's my new love interest. He's really nice and sweet. I hope things work out because I really like him a lot. We played mario kart w/ his suitmates which was so intense and then watched "Family Guy."
I've been to a few football games but our team is so good there's no need to REALLY go and the last time I froze my ass off. I also don't get along w/ my roommate and we both hate each other but we co-exist and we do have a level of respect but I hate my room and my loft. I hit my head on that damn thing and on the ceiling all the time. It's gotten slightly better and I'm next to this great room and it's like a party room. It's so noisy! I'm signed up for a room transfer but haven't gotten it yet and probably won't until like next semester when there's a foot of freaking snow on the ground. I honsetly don't know if I'll be returning here next fall or not. I'm still deciding on all that but I really don't want to live at home. I don't want my parents ruling over me forever and when I was home last weekend, we fought a little. I'll figure it all out w/in time.
I have gotten to take the bus (it's free!) around the area and I got to go downtown to see Jonathon Kozol talk. He's a really good author and it was cool even though it was required for a class. I have a class at the downtown campus next semester which I'm psyched about. I also ride the bus to meijer's like every week because I always need stuff or what not. I need to go and purchase Help! on dvd.
I FINALLY saw "Across the Universe" and I LOVED it! At first, I didn't know what to think but now I need to go see it again. I love Jim Sturgess and the whole cast is great and the soundtrack/music in the film is awesome. It just rules my world.
I think sometime this week I'll take Chris to the Van Andel museum downtown. It's not far from the downtown campus, like a five minute walk and they have a rock laser light show and cool stuff. It'll be like a semi-date.
Well, that's all I can remember for now other than I've become obsessed w/ youtube! There are so many cool things on that site and I love macros now too. They are hilarious.
Oh, I'm also working on a rock band idea. I can play guitar better and I've definitely found my style of singing. I also just watched The Amazing journey:The story of the Who on VH1 and it was great! Jeff's turned me into a Who fanatic. I love them!
I'm off to go to bed now and discover what tomorrow (techinically now today) will bring! I also promise to update this thing more because I've been lurking in the lj communities but haven't updated my personal page. My mom says that having a journal will be good for me and maybe she's right.
