Archbishop Tutu

Amazing.

Tonight was the celebration for the 75th anniversary of St. Marks Cathedral, and Desmond Tutu's 75's birthday as well (which is actually in October). We have long connection w/ South Africa, and our dean is a friend of Tutu's so he was here to speak.

It was amazing.

We started by singing a gospel-ish song in which Kris and I did a duet, which turned out really nicely, and then we all ran up to the organ loft to sing with the other choirs. Which was good.

But mainly, Archbishop Tutu's sermon was incredible. He's old and small and fiesty and funny and passionate. He is such an amazing person. He talked about loving everyone, but in a way that made it seem entirely possible and not like some little kids show but like true, universal love. And he spoke against the war and against discrimination.

Afterwards he cut a GIANT cake in a huge tent outside, and everyone had champagne (not me) and sparkling cider (there I am).

I'm so glad I got to hear him speak, and sing at the service. The cathedral was more packed than I've ever seen it.
