And thus, I found a copy of Working Designs last hurrah in perfect condition and never opened: Growlanser Generation Deluxe.
It has been somewhat of a youthful dream of mine to play the Growlanser series proper, and I have to say that Growlanser II is probably the greatest RPG I've played in some time. Goes to show if you've played FFXI to death and gain a firm grounding for the basis of most RPG's that come from Japan that don't catch on here, you gain the ability to become unstoppable at them.
Growlanser II is very deep, down to the gameplay system and the open ended mechanics of the actual story. While it's addicting and strategic, I just wish some of the mechanics had been expanded upon. A "relationship status" bar is nice, especially when it means you might be able to have a good ending with certain albino girls with a penchant for red and being the bone of her sword (Charlone Claudine relevant to my interests) and you have a pointless expression change for every single character's status menu...but a single relationship bar is rather limited in its actual gameplay and storyline use. It's so easy to tell there could have been tons of ways they may have gone about making it more in-depth, but that'd also alienate most...but seriously, it's Growlanser, a game only ever popular in Japan. JP love complicated RPG's. Should have been seperate types of relationship meters, a character's confidence in you as a leader/fighter, then one that has how they feel for you personally. Perhaps if they become too emotionally close to you, it would affect their behavior in battle and make them go out of their way to protect you, even if it's dangerous for them. Along with things like that, each one would serve a seperate purpose.
But oh well, that'd have been an insane amount of work.
Also: Maximillian Schneider is perhaps the most homosexual character that doesn't outright admit it I have ever encountered in a video game. It doesn't help that he is modeled after Aoshi Shinomori down to the exact coat, and all of his character dialogue artwork shows him to look as though he is constantly fawning over the main character when he speaks .
AOSHI = FAWNING OVER MAIN CHARACTER = GAY = TACITURN FOR THE GOOD OF PEACE = EXTREMELY GAY = GAY = FUCKING TATOSHI
Uh, did I mention Charlone is relevant to my interests? I think the developers had that in mind, because she is actually a challenge to get a ": : : : D D D " expression for her Character artwork in comparison to the male characters, who you so much as go "Yes, I agree with you" to and they seem to want to jump your bones. . .or at least the Mexican kid is elated enough to put his finger to his nose and look at you wide-eyed on the screen. The voice acting cannot be beat as well.
