What would you say?

I recently did one of those little surveys that pop up on the myspace bulletins from time to time, but one of the questions really got me thinking, as sometimes happens when I have copious amount of time and no television with which to pass it.

That idea went something like this: If you could go back to your high school self and tell yourself any six things you wanted, what would they be? Well, I just filled in the answers without much thought, but later as I was getting ready for bed, I thought about it more and decided to write about it here.
So without further adieu, my letter to my high-school self:

Dear Julie, June 1999
I know this may be unfathomable to you now, but there's a lot you're going to go through by the time you become me. So take heed, because some of these things will blindside you.
First of all, the heartbreak you feel over Rob Kagle isn't the end of the world. Yes, I know you feel like your heart has been sucked out and breathing hurts, but you will keep going and you will be very happy again. This is the first of the trials that will show you how resiliant your spirit really is.
Secondly, spend as much time with Autumn as you can, preferably on a back country road in a pick up truck. You won't realize until it's far too late just how much you will miss being around her in a careless, uninhibited world.
Third, don't let the uber-bitchy girls get to you. You'll realize after high school they did it because they were threatened by you. Had they decided to give you half a chance, they would have liked you as everyone since has.
You'll be married by this time next year to someone you haven't even met yet, and you won't know it until it hits you that you got in way too deep. You will learn from it that you are strong and beatiful no matter what anyone else says, but you will also learn how to cry without making a noise and how to be invisible.
But keep your chin up. While your vows will be broken from day one on his part, there are others in your future more willing to prove they are worth the time. You don't yet know the significance of IRC or Long Island University, but these things and the people they bring you will become major parts of your life.
Lastly, swallow your pride no matter how much Chris aggravates you. He loves you more than you'd let your self think and someday all too soon, you won't get to say it to him. Don't let your last words be in anger. Don't let any words to him be in anger. Fill them with a lifetime of love that he will never get to experience. And when the day comes for him as it comes for us all, know that for as alone as you feel, they are with you in spirit before they ever knew your name.
You will be plenty amazed when you become me and see your face in the bathroom mirror of the apartment you rent thousands of miles from home. Just remember to find the things you can enjoy until you get here and don't ever lose your ability to smile.

Julie
