Sashiko

Yes, yes, I know - I am a posting fool this morning...

I am getting ready to pick up a new hobby to go along with knitting (which has been very fun, by the way) - it's called sashiko - basically it's an OLD form of quilting from Japan.

I was inspired from a fancy kitchen rag that my friend's mom made for me. I received it from my 1999 trip to Japan, but saved it all these years because I thought it was too beautiful to use as a kitchen rag.
but I recently thought to myself, "that's what it was made for - and I should use it" (and darn it, stop HOARDING everything you think is beautiful) ;)

Besides kitchen rags, you can make pillows, curtain drapes, jackets, bags, etc... with this type of quilting.

Anyways, here's a site where I ordered a bunch of supplies, at what I thought was a good deal.. Thought I would share it: Sashiko and here is a site with some more info about the art: What is it?

- I went crazy at Michael's Craft store yesterday. Luckily, there was a big sale going on, which I didn't even know about, so I saved $15 off my total :)

I purchased 3 116"x20 canvases and a large 27"x 40" (or something like that) canvas so Ry and I could make some artwork to put on our bare walls. It's been bare mainly because we're really picky about what goes on the walls... we have a vision, of sorts. Anyways, the projects should be fun. I bought a good selection of acrylics (goddamn they are expensive!) and india ink.

I couldn't help but buy a couple things of beautiful foofy yarn (a crazy mossy green) - actually the color resembles oscar the grouch :)

After my yoga practice last night, I spent the rest of the late evening into early morning putting my parent's iPod Shuffle together. They have a laptop, but the whole process of using iTunes and putting music onto their iPod is way too much for them to do. I offered to help, and it took forever to get to it, but I finally did it - and I am happy it's done. Now I just have to get a package ready to send them.

I can just picture my mom with her iPod shuffle - working out on the treadmill. cute :)
