Ratings
Cover: 8/10
Pretty Good, gives us an idea of the Dog's equipment. Pigeons are a nice touch, though I wish I could have seen more of the city behind. I've no real notion what it looks like.
Characters: 10/10
Tamora always makes great characters, with depth and interesting personalities. Believable, hilarious, even while the character develops while you read.
Story: 9/10
I'm too used to CSI, I wanted much more gore and tracking. The idea is great, the Pigeons are a nice touch, and for once the main character isn't god like in magical abilities. It makes the story much more plausible.
Ending: 9/10
Bit short, though well I know this is going to be a trilogy. It carries nothing of story or tension into the next book. As well, there is finally a romantic coupling of the main character, but it's at the end of the book. What a pain.
Overall Thoughts 9/10
When reading through this, I was surprised to pick out grammar mistakes every once in awhile. Completely shocked me, but it didn't take much out of the story. Other than that, I look forward to the next two books, because now the character is set up, the next can worry about some massive plot happening. Tamora Pierce is an amazing writer, though I wish she would write a bit older aged book once in awhile.
