I was about due for a rant

May 29, 2009 08:54

On my walk to work this morning I saw a sparrow holding a plastic wrapper in his beak. I tried to get him to drop it by chasing him a little bit, but he just hopped away and then flew over a fence. I really hope he was going to use it for a nest or something instead of trying to eat it, or else he's a goner.

I had just bought my fourth mini umbrella at a CVS (I lose them all the damn time), and received my millionth plastic bag. I always forget to tell cashiers I don't need one, and then I end up drowning in them. Seriously, my apartment would look like 62% less of a shithole if I wasn't constantly handed bags I didn't need and mailed credit card applications and super saver packets and victoria's secret catalogues. I read somewhere that 100 million trees are destroyed each year and made into junk mail. So, not only does this crap clutter up my dining room table and piss me off, it decimates forests, and will probably just end up in a landfill because I sure as hell don't need another credit card.

I Googled "unsolicited, mail, trees" and a bunch of websites popped up -- the top hit is donotmail.org. I'm going to do some research, because this has to stop.
