Again, I know nobody follows this but just bare with me...
Okay, so my city is hosting the 2010 Olympic Games in a few days so I thought that I would start a blog. I may as well. Just for my own fun ( even though my midterms are approaching this week and my cat is all over the keyboard as I type) Whoever wants to follow (no one ) can follow, I'll post pictures and fun little tidbits each day...or at least try to.
Let me just start this evening my telling everyone what is going on around the city. A lot of street closures have started (which is a BITCH trying to commute in) and the real setup has begun. I'm a bit scared, to be truthful, about what is going to happen in this city during the games. Its not an easy city to get around at the best of times...but close a few roads and all hell will break lose. Here is my main complaint; WHY WOULD YOU EVER HOST THE WINTER OLYMPICS ON THE WEST COAST?!?!? The mountains (Cypress and Grouse)which are supposed to host a lot of skiing and snowboarding events have a pitiful amount of snow (which organizers are desperately trying to bring in from the Interior mountains) and overall the city at this time of year....pretty temperate, folks. No big weather worry here. I guess the saving grace is that the city has no snow to speak of. Anyone from Vancouver can tell you that this city, in the snow, does NOT work well at all.
Oh but all is well beacuse the only sport this country cares about will go along just as planned. The Vancouver Canucks (NHL) are on a road trip for the entire month of February because their home, General Motors Place, has turned into Hockey Canada Place to play home to the men's and women's Canadian hockey teams. I picked up a copy of Sports Illustarted today and low and behold who graces rge fron cover? Oh yes, none other than Canada's favorite son; poster boy Sidney Crosby with a nice caption " SIDNEY'S MOMENT: WHY CANADA MUST WIN". A lot of pressure, especially on the men's team, to win gold. We'll see. Sick roster, but who knows. Another Salt Lake City reapeat would be nice ;)
I'll post some pics of the downtown core in the next couple days, as well as the torch relay that is coming right by my place on Tuesday.
The games are almost here, and just to be sooooo amazinly corny, I have to ask.........DO YOU BELIEVE!?!?!?!
