juicy & delicious scoop: rise of the barfood - stereolounge
checked out the brand new stereolounge (located just outside pan pacific hotel) the other nite. apparently it officially started operations just this monday, which explained y there was barely a soul.
a new venture by michel lu, the man behind prive n hacienda, it's an interesting concept that combines a club, bar and restaurant all in one.
the stereolounge interior
if i had to compare it to any other local joint, think of it as having a velvet loungey vibe with a live DJ spinning every nite (electrico's dave tan on tuesdays). n if u love ur music, the sound system here is da bomb. i hear they use top-of-the-line stuff. there is also a separate room known as the stereolab, which i believe is the dance floor / event area.
the key difference between velvet and stereolounge is that this place has some pretty awesome food. i honestly wouldn't even call it bar food, it's cafe / restaurant quality - not just senseless fried, greasy stuff.
the portions aren't exactly entree size but great for sharing amongst a couple of friends. definitely do try the bbq pulled pork sandwich with tender shredded pork, apple cider vinegar and bbq sauce ($15).
also a must are the beef meatballs with cilantro, tomato and red wine sauce ($10), the grilled jumbo prawn skewers with garlic n cilantro ($14) as well as the cuban lamb skewers with minted yoghurt and ground cumin dip ($12). although for the lamb skewers, i do suggest you order it a bit more well done - it was much too raw for me that nite.

didn't get to try dessert altho the choc dipped strawberries @ $10 sounded pretty darn good!
drinks wise, happy hour beverages go at half price 'til 9pm. as of opening, the happy hour drinks include champagne n a selection of cocktails including most martinis and mojitos.
wasn't crazy about the black longan martini ($8 at happy hour) altho it's a rather interesting mix, but love their mojitos - i think there are 4-5 on the menu. try the southern peach mojito ($9 at happy hour) or the original - what they call the 'perfect' mojito.

definitely a place worth checking out for after-work drinks, before more people know about it, n it gets too crowded! the only complaint i have, unrelated to food, is i wish they would do something about the dancing lights - they kept shining into my eyes, which was very annoying.
