I shouldn't have had time to do so, but sometimes there would be a spate of such things around the squad grounds, so.

I was only planning on just the one, but...

Well, yes, of course. I'm a part of the Thirteen Court Guard Squads, the Gotei Thirteen, back home. We protect against Hollows, help Pluses, that sort of thing.

Just this one so far.

What's a... hollow?

A Hollow? It's. Well, they're a sort of monster-ghost born from the corrupt soul of a human who has lingered too long in the living world. They eat other souls, and have a hole where their heart would be and a mask over their face.

Wait-- eat souls? That all sounds real weird.

To someone living who has never been threatened by a Hollow, yes, perhaps it sounds quite odd.

But that is what I have trained for years to defend against.

What kinda stuff d'ya have to know?

Most living people have not. But they exist in this world as well, I was surprised to find.

Kidou, mostly offensive and defensive, but having a good basis in the healing techniques does not go amiss; shunpo, hand-to-hand combat, strategy or at least how to follow orders well, swordsmanship, a good rapport with one's zanpakutou. Things such as that.

They are fairly normal in my world.

Not just a sword of steel and cloth, but a weapon with a soul, that is part of my soul as well--and who happens to have the form of a sword most of the time, yes.

So-- uh, if it's like a part of your soul uh-- how do you use it?

Like any other zanpakutou? They have a sealed form that looks like a sword for most people. It's their unsealed form that varies for everyone. And those who are most in harmony with their zanpakutou can use bankai, which oftentimes comes with yet another alteration of physical form.
