I have a job. I'm hired to be a hostess at Cafe Ba-ba-reeba, a Tapas restaurant north of where I live in Lincoln Park, a trendy and budding area of Chicago. Excited? Not really, no. Glad to have a job? Yes. Though it's disappointing to know that of the 40 other places that were better, office jobs, not a single one thought my application or resume good enough to respond to. Apparently 4 years at a good university, a BA, and a great GPA don't do shit as far as finding a job goes.
Yay.
Oh well, working in a restaurant might not be SO bad. It could provide some good writing fodder, some interesting if not fun experiences. There are also a lot of opportunities to move up.
What else? I went for a run today, FINALLY. It was really beautiful, and a weird experience to run right downtown, past Michigan Ave and people in their business suits, then to descend the steps down by the lake shore and run past the yacht club, past parks, past beautiful museums. It was great. I enjoyed it. It was 7.5 miles in all.
I bought a cta card today. The gold kind. It cost 75 dollars for unlimited monthly usage. Cities are EXPENSIVE.
I was hoping to move out to my own apartment in June or July, but sadly it doesn't look like I'll have the money for this. Between the heightened cost of living, the fact that I'm already quite poor, the fact that I won't exactly be raking it in this summer, the fact that I have to pay a shit ton to use the bus. Yeah. No chance on the moving out until August.
Yes, this makes for a bit of awkward living with Curtis. Since we are not dating, are both also interested in other people, yes, this is a bit of awkward living. Good thing we're friends.
I'm certain that this will be an interesting summer, regardless. It'll be something I'm sure I'll remember for a long time.
