“The Case of the Four and Twenty Blackbirds” by Neil Gaiman

good story, would make a good short film

I'm not sure if I've shared with y'all yet my theory on Traditional Chinese Medicine (really should get off my lazy arse and write that treatise that I've always been meaning to write). I'm sick with the Beijing Plague again, and this time I'm doing the whole 入乡随俗 (when in rome) thing and trying to use TCM to get me back on my feet. However, since I'm lazy, I'm sticking to the prefab variety, like 板蓝根 (banlangen) rather than getting a personally brewed pot of nasty made for me. Last time I had a cold I tried the traditional American pharmacopia only to feel like I was sick for longer... so this time I'm going with the potions. This is my second day, and I'm actually feeling worse, rather than better. However, the afterkick of the bitter syrupy soups is so nasty that I'm fairly certain that I'll be getting better soon, just to avoid having to drink them.

Whatever works, man.

I went to Ikea yesterday (thankyou MLK) and while the place is a lot nicer sans the horde of Chinese yuppies, its still not a terribly pleasant experience, but at least I survived. Bought lots of random things, and pretty things, and even a couple vaguely useful things (like the table for my teacup next to the sofa in my study, and the desk lamp). I have to admit, though, that I have a problem. No, its not an addiction to Ikea, heavens no... Its that I actually enjoy putting the pieces together, like a painful puzzle. Yes, I have a problem.

...

That is all, for now.

puzzles, 板蓝根, 北京, chinese medicine, twenty and four blackbirds, neil gaiman, ikea
