This entry is brought to you by the sound aaargh and the number 4 (for 4 hours sleep!).
It's Friday afternoon, of changeover Friday, full moon + one, 8 hours hard labour in the kitchen and cleaning behind me by 2,30pm.
It's hard to see where the fortnight has gone. I've spent large chunks of it (a goodly sized portion of my free time) away from the bay, chasing internet connections in Rethymnon and Agia Galini.
Latest update: did manage to get Galini working on my Mac eventually - at 4 euros an hour, I got Firefox and then Safari going to surf, but no Mail (sob). Only 130+ emails in the inbox.... My cunning plan was to download them. To no avail.
Did get an agreement with Manolis from Rethymno Youth Hostel to use the Wifi there. It worked, when I was able to make a flying visit to Rethymno for 2 hours (plus an hour driving each way) Monday before last.
But when I drove there on Sunday, Manolis wasn't there, and his sidekick and mother said I couldn't use it. My pleas fell on deaf and bemused ears. Comikaze wrote something about wanting to send people to the seven circles of hell. I know how he feels, and understand how, in the heat of summer, the Cretan personality evolved over the centuries (Millenia) so that a level of violent resistance develops. Sigh.
Feel better after reading Comikaze's response to the man who blocked his car. So.
Kitchen has been going well though. I cooked "the best vegetarian meal I've ever tasted" according to one guest. Rave reviews both nights this week. Yay me!
Only 5 more nights up the hill so soon will not have to trek 10 minutes up and down hill to my room. Yay!
Will blog more, and more eloquently soon. Am catching up on emails the hard way - at Dimitris on 24kbps....
