You know those days when you have no idea where your brain is...

...and all you can do is hope that whoever's got it is making good use out of it?

Fortunately, I'm quickly approaching the end of my Interfuse preparations. Costumes are done (except that I discovered last night that I'd forgotten to put the fur rim on my viking helmet), the car is half-loaded, with other stuff assembled in the house and ready to go, grog is prepared, and most of the shopping has been done. I need to run out tonight and get a couple more things, do a load of laundry, and cook food as well, plus burn some CDs for Radio KRZY, which sets up and broadcasts on-site.

My roommate from the past year moved out last night. Which is good, since my new roommate moved in two weeks ago. She's a burner, who I first met last year at Interfuse, and is also stage manager for Vesuvius, the KC area fireplay group. The problem is that she's been busy with various and sundry other crap, and hasn't been able to get as much of her stuff together. So I'll likely be helping her assemble costumery tonight.

I'm getting progressively more excited about it, which is the only reason I've gotten as much done as I have. In a way, I'm glad there's only two more days left, simply because I'm nearly done with preparations. I'm ready, let's get going.

The rain predicted for the end of the week will not deter much of anyone. Apparently last Interfuse (coincidentally my first) was the first one that experienced NO rain. Something recently came across the mailing list about contingency plans, which elicited this response:

There are no contingency plans... Absolutely none. I don’t think contingency is even a word we’ve ever even thrown around… ;) We shoot from the hip and fuck shit up spontaneously. We’ll figure it out when it happens ;).

Seriously though… On the rain tip… Last year was the first year that we haven’t had rain. Rain is almost a staple of the MWB events. Two years ago we had a freak storm hit on Thursday night during setup that I swear almost bowled us all into the next county. I remember literally holding the poles to the Radio KRZY tent with Richard and Vincent while rain poured off of the canopy and down our bodies to the ground… I remember thinking we should just let it go, and let the weather take it where it would - yelling across the tent to Vinnie “HEY WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO?!?!”… His reply: “WE’RE DOING IT.” Now THAT is my idea of contingency planning ;).

But if it rains, that's just an excuse to hide in the tent and cuddle up with someone.

I volunteered to help out at one of the impromptu makeshift restaurants, which also includes a coffee bar and game room. Last year, I didn't know anyone, and didn't get on the mailing list until afterwards, so I was largely clueless until I got there, and then only slightly clueless, which I apparently hid well, because people were consistently surprised that it was my first burn. But this time I'm actively getting myself involved with the functioning, and therefore will inherently expose myself (not like that - well, possibly, but they're burners, so whatever...) and hopefully get to know most of the people there, rather than just the handful I met in my random meanderings last year. Regardless, it'll be a good (extended) weekend.
