Ahh back from my God daughters birthday party. We had every thing a party needs. Jelly, games oh and strange guy who wandered in.
Yup, we got crashed by an elderly gentleman, apparently he had been at the hall earlier and lost a glove. So we had a look for it. No joy. So we wrote out a note for the hall management. He seemed a little frail and confused so got him a chair to compose himself before he headed home.
Then we shifted the cake as he was about to cut it. (Generally you like to have the kids sing happy birthday first).
Next minute he is starting to open the presents!
So we retrieve them from him, he apologises saying he thought it was his birthday, but I am not convinced he is quite as confused as he is making out as I had been watching him pick one up, then rapidly put it down when anyone went near, then reach out sideways to grab it again when he thought he was unobserved. I do think he wasn't fully with it, but not so far gone that he would mistake a 3 year olds party for a surprise party for himself, particularly when he didn't know anyone there.
Still we didn't make a huge fuss, just moved everything out of reach and left him to his devices until he decided to wander off again. Then he wandered back. I had visions of calling social services or the police just to help him find his way home.
What fun eh?
