Now What?

Ok. I have the PS3. Fire off your recommendations for the best games...fantasy/RPG and world-builder types. Rock Band/Guitar Hero are certainly possibilities. First-person shooters make me queasy. And I already have Hot Shots Golf :)

Now that you have the console, you might also want to check out the following two inexpensive downloadable "games" from the PS3 store: flOw and ektachrome

They're kind of hard to describe. flOw has gorgeous graphics, cool music, and uses the accelerometer in the controller. Essentially you start off as a small sea creature; the goal is to eat other creatures, grow, and then dive deeper into the ocean. When you get to the very bottom, you unlock a new type of creature that you can then play, with different abilities. It's very simple, and you can earn and succeed with all six creature types pretty quickly, but it's really really cool and worth the few bucks it costs.

The other one, ektachrome, has your avatar -- a small wooden artist mannequin -- walks along Escher-like structures. The idea is to get him to certain points on the structure, by playing with perspective. If there's a break in the surface on which he's walking, you rotate the structure until you can't see the break, and if you can't see it, it doesn't exist. Similarly for holes in his way. Or you can use a hole to drop him to another point; if it looks on screen like there's a spot below him in the 2D perspective (even if in 3d you'd know that it might actually be a point at the same level or even higher), then he'll drop to it when he goes into the hole. It's really cool, too.
