It is old news but I feel like it is worth mentioning that a couple weeks ago a whale swam up the Thames river and into London. For a few days it was all BBC seemed to talk about. There was speculation abound at why the whale was this far from the ocean and how it was going to get back against the currant. Reporters staked out on the bank hoping for a siting and newspapers with obnoxious headlines like "A Whale of a Tale" were stuffing the newsstands for 3 days. All the while the Palestinians are preparing to elect Hamas as the ruling party, and the BBC is absolutely fixated on reporting about the progress of this damn whale. If this is the first you have heard of the 'Thames Whale' story, then I'm sure you feel the same as I did at first: It is pretty cool that there is a whale swimming alongside to London Eye and Parliament. But after 3 days of constant "breaking news" as to how the whale looks or is behaving or specualtion as to what it's favorite color is, you might, as I did, start to get suspicious that just maybe there are other things going on in the world that are a little more important. By the way, the whale died after a few days by beaching itself on one of the banks. I don't blame him. If I was the main feature in a newspaper article entitled "Free Willy" (not an exaggeration) I'd probably kill myself too.

Happy last day of January! Enjoy the State of the Union Address tonight. I'll be setting my alarm for 2am to watch it live on BBC tomorrow morning.
I hope I don't wake up any of my flatmates with my shoutings of "No! No! You idiot!" at the television.

cheers.
