On March 15th, my grandma had stents put in because she had a blocked artery.
On March 16th she came home.
On March 18th, my mom closed on our new house back in New Hampshire.
On March 19th my grandma got taken by ambulence to Holy Family. She had a massive heart attack at the hospital because the stents were closed shut. From there the flew her by helicopter to St. Elizabeths in Boston. Where she was put on life support.
The next day my family and I found out that the heart attack caused a hole to form between the left and right side of her heart, and that they would need to preform open heart surgery that thursday to patch the hole.
So my family took turns staying at the hospital 'round the clock. I spent 5 nights there.
Thursday came and the surgery went well. She still remained on life support ( ventalator and a balloon pump).
Saturday the doctors started decreasing the balloon pump so that her heart was doing most of the work.
Sunday they took it out and started taking her off the sedation medications.
Monday she opened her eyes and was able to respond to yes or no questions by moving her toes or blinking her eyes.
Tuesday the doctors informed of us of more bad news. My grandmothers left lung was starting to collapse and that they would need to put a chest tube in. They also were going to put a treach in because the breathing tubes, if left in for more than two weeks, could cause throat ulcers.
So on Friday she had the treach and a feeding tube put in.
Saturday she was doing fine.
Yesterday they moved her into a rehab so that she could learn to breath on her own.
My grandmother is a fighter. The doctors didn't even think she would make it through the open heart surgery.
