I forgot how much I love writing about useless things. Thus, I'm starting again.
Today, my useless subject will be - Nate Dogg...Genius?
I'm going to have to answer myself with a big resounding, "YES." All the evidence can be found in the song, "Shake That." Eminem featuring Nate Dogg...really? As I listen to it, I try and figure out how the song would be anything without Nate. He IS the song. It should be Nate Dogg featuring Eminem. And I can prove it.
"And I get more ass than a toilet seat."
Let's take one second to think about this ludicrous phrase. Yes, it does conjure some disgusting imagery. However, isn't part of intelligence being able to make a connection between two unrelated objects? If it's not it should be. He could've made a more obvious analogy: such as using a well-known playboy (none are coming to mind right now, sorry.) Or some colorful word used to describe men that are forever scoring in the bedroom. But no, Nate Dogg goes further than anyone else would. Could.
"Let me tell you how I made her leave with me: conversation and hennessey."
Amazing. I can't think of anything to describe this quote. It's so honest: no tricks; he struck up some conversation with the lady, all the while getting her intoxicated. Why is this genius? Because of the simplicity. Guys have so many schemes with bells and whistles to get you to go home with them they have forgotten the simple solution: alcohol. Thank you Nate, for reminding us.
"If I ain't got a weapon I'ma pick up a rock."
Most of us would just think, "Goshdarnit, I forgot my weapon at home." But not Nate Dogg. Is he going to sit there and cry over spilt milk? H no. He is going to be resourceful and pick up a rock. Knowing how to use your resources people; I can't even begin to explain how important this is related to intelligence. How could man kind have survived without utilizing our resources. Bravo Nate Dogg, bravo.
"Look real close cause strobe lights lie."
Mind-blowing! There are not strobe lights everywhere you go in life. Do you want to be fooled by these menacing, pulsating lights? I say no, we certainly do not. Nate Dogg succinctly warned us in this phrase about the danger of ugly people in the club. Don't let this happen to you. Be aware that bright bursts of light may alter the appearance of someone.
A lyrical genius.
What about musically?
Yes, musically as well.
Nate Dogg has a powerful, booming voice when he raps; but when he sings in the chorus it's as smooth as silk. As silk. Rich, velvety chocolate is what he sounds like. Just as he does in "Regulate" with Warren G.
I don't know what inspired "Shake That." But this is Nate Dogg's breakthrough to genius. Yes, he had it musically in "Regulate." Lyrically though, it wasn't there. Genius is about taking it to the next level. In "Shake That" he pulls out all the stops to show us the many dimensions of himself. Here, we are finally allowed to understand the new level he has transcended to. Bravo Nate Dogg. Bravo.
